What’s it like to work and live in the Green Cooperative?
Real work. Real life. Real relationships.
This is real work where every action you make matters. Like real life, you get out of it what you put into it.
We will first welcome you to the Extreme Green Village as a Guest
A Coop Member will give you a tour of the Green Cooperative Housing Idea Project.
Ideally, you would have read through this Website, as thoroughly as you can.
The tour could be just you, by yourself, and a Coop Member.
The tour could also be you and your spouse, or even you and your family. (We will have facilities to take care of children who are too young to work with you. And we guarantee it will be fun for them!!!) For some of us, there is nothing more beautiful than being a member of a family that works together to do something bigger than themselves. For most of us, we never had that experience and we don’t even know we miss it. You can learn here. You can teach here. You can start here.
The tour could be you and a prospective, serious girlfriend or boyfriend. Real work. Real life. Real relationship. You’ve proven to each other that you like or even love each other when it’s a date situation. Is it time to see if you can work with each other when it really matters? Too many people fall in love before they find out if they can effectively work together. You can learn here. You can teach here. You can start here.
The tour could be you and a prospective group of business partners. Some of you will work well together on the site. How many businesses fail because the partners can’t work together? Wouldn’t it be nice to know that before you started the business? And while you are doing that, contribute to the Environment at the same time?
The tour could be you and an innovative way to get new employees to learn about teamwork and contribute to the Environment at the same time.
The tour could be you and your Church, your Environmental group, your Meetup group, your club, your team. This could be an opportunity to create an atmosphere where you aren’t just a stranger in a group.
The tour could be just a group of friends with a common interest or a way to make new friends. “Hey, (person I’d like to be friends with) I volunteer at The Green Cooperative Housing Idea Project. It’s super cool! Want to come look at it with me and see if you’d like being a member of my team? Or we could build a team together?”
NOTE: If your group of friends are underage, we still would like you Volunteering on the on the site. It’s just that there’ll have to be a ratio of responsible adult to underage Volunteering.
Then you come on the Idea Project as a Volunteer
After the tour, if you’re ready, you can be a volunteer right then. The responsibility standards for a Volunteer are lower than the standards for a Coop-Member-In-Training. But if you like the come to the site when you want, stay as long as you want and leave when you want. That freedom of work can only be a Volunteer, you can be a Volunteer for years. You can be a Volunteer for as long as you like.
But even if you want to be a Volunteer you still have to call and see if anyone wants you as a Volunteer on their team.
Note: We’re talking about volunteering to work here. The volunteer is the most popular person when they walk on the site. Every team needs an extra hand. And when you are there, other teams will try to steal you away from each other! It should be fun! Hard work, but satisfying work.
Another Note: Being a Volunteer, a Coop-Member-In-Training or one of the permutations of a Coop Member. They all have benefits. You can get in the best shape of your life. You can learn the complete process of building and all the skills involved. You can make friends for a lifetime. Find a new direction in life. Fulfill some personal dreams. (More on that later.)
After being a Volunteer you can qualify to be a Coop-Member-In-Training
Note: To become a Coop-Member-In-Training, you first have to become a Giving Coop Member, a Loaning Coop Member or a Saving Coop Member.
(See Becoming a Giving Coop Member, a Loaning Coop Member or a Saving Coop Member on the right.)
A Giving Coop Member
Supports the efforts of the Extreme Green Village by giving a contribution.
A Loaning Coop Member
Supports the efforts of the Extreme Green Village by loaning money at ridiculously low Money Market rates, for the completion of the full size Idea Project.
A Saving Coop Member
Wants to save for a down payment for their own personal Extreme Green Village housing unit.
A Coop-Member-In-Training has higher standards.
The responsibility standards for a Coop-Member-In-Training are higher than the standards for a Volunteer. You will be on time when you say you will be. You will contribute to a team. You will become an assistant manager of a team and then a Manager.
Your hours of contribution will be counted and totaled. If you then are accepted by the other Coop Members, as a Coop Member, then there will be an opportunity of a fractional repay for the hours you’ve worked!
Note: A fractional repay of a Coop Member’s contribution is just another benefit of Coop Membership. The repay could be almost anything. It’s bartering work for work. Driving, babysitting, helping to build a Green lake house, starting a Green business, tutoring and any number of other possibilities. You’re welcome, Coop Members.
After being a Coop-Member-In-Training you can qualify to be a Coop Member
The responsibility standards for a Coop Member are even higher than the standards for a Coop-Member-In-Training. You will have to become a successful assistant manager of a team and then a successful Manager.
You have been a planner, the keeper of the hours, the teacher and the motivator. You are responsible for your team, their success and the behavior of all of them. That Includes the Volunteers and the Coop-Members-In-Training that get on and get off your team.
You can deduct contribution hours from unproductive or uncooperative team members. You can suspend team members. You can even kick team members off your team. This Idea Project is about real work, real life and real relationships.
When you have become a contributing and respected Coop-Member-In-Training. And when the Cooperative Members recognize this, they will vote for you to become a true Cooperative Member in the Extreme Green Village (Green Cooperative Housing Idea Project).
Types of Coop Members
The type that wants to build a Green life on this Idea Project.
The type that wants to live and work on this project and then want to live and work on the next project and so on and so on until they either want to go on to something else or want to settle down.
The type that wants to contribute but chooses not to move onto the property. Still, they want to help the Environment, but they also want to build hours for their personal dreams. So it can be a labor barter situation.
The type that wants to support the Project with Giving or Loaning and who can influence where the next Project is going to be. The money is to just show a commitment to the Idea Project. They may live thousands of miles away but they see the big picture in this Extreme Green Village. Do you?
For the Coop Members, who are Loaning Members or Saving Members, if anything happens they can ask for their money back, plus interest and minus a handling charge.
